Wilfried Nancy stated he did not fear losing his job, claiming, “The team is extremely close to things turning around,” despite moving dangerously close to the exit with a comprehensive defeat by the Ibrox side.

A Second-Half Collapse Sees Derby Defeat

The Hoops were in front Rangers at half-time but a second-half capitulation let Danny Röhl’s team to pull level on points with the defending Scottish Premiership champions. The former MLS manager, who was hired in December, has now overseen six setbacks in his first eight games.

“We are together at the club,” insisted Nancy.

Pressed on the speculation, the 48-year-old responded: “It’s not on my mind. I concentrate on discovering solutions to get the team to be good on small moments.

The fans made their feelings clear – directed at the board and manager – in their hundreds outside the stadium. The hierarchy would be most likely to bring back the former boss, who enjoyed a successful interim spell last year, if Nancy departs.

“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the truth for the moment. However by saying this is the reality, that is not a sign that I am a defeatist guy. No. What I mean we are on the cusp, imminently close to change the narrative.”

“Really, Really Close”

The coach remains focused on the fact the side can perform strongly for a half at a time. In fact, were it not for wastefulness in front of goal they could have been more than 1-0 up. “I saw enough aside from the fact that we haven’t scored a second goal,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but it's important to stay balanced.

“The standard we had at times was exceptionally high. This is the reality. I could not talk like that if it was untrue. That is the reason, regarding outcomes, I said we've seen this before. For that reason I feel we are really close to things turning around. But for the moment: small things.”

“I saw a lot of encouraging signs that we did, once more. The issue now it’s about sustaining it. My narrative would not be the same. Therefore I am a big believer we will manage to fix this.”

Röhl’s Cautious Outlook

Danny Röhl played down talk of a serious challenge despite what appeared to be a landmark win. “We take it game by game, then we can really build up a challenge,” he said. “The faith in the team is outstanding.”
