Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Meeting Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden Fall Classic after 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for our team, the city, the nation," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an incredible feeling."

The veteran has now hit 23 October home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another player anywhere that I'd choose in that situation except for him with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the early in the series, remain the sole team that has never reached in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but applauded their work throughout the year.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of this game," he remarked.

Toronto's team secured the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
