The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
