The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller That Blends Survival Horror with Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several intriguing future games, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a girl containing several personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct personas, each with unique fears and motivations. These souls can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the action takes place within a eerie hospital, though additional clips show the main character navigating a desolate church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The central gameplay loop revolves around controlling the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become amplified and attack the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with orderlies who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the waiting room have large blooms where their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four personas asserts that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players believes a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can lie or hide the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration states. "The final entity remaining could be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
