Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Leading Abusive Songs About Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has joined the Championship side only seven months following instigating derogatory chants aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has signed a agreement joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His lengthy career at Elland Road was ended amicably in August.

Among Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting insulting songs regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion party this spring. Currently, the former England international will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull the team he loves away from the drop zone.

Past Conflict Between the Striker & Wilder

Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

Everything seems to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.

The song about Wilder spread widely in April. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no problem at all with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that’s part and parcel of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
