Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for questions to be asked about his position after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with results so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
